Welding!

The weather is warm, the back is … OK … and it’s time to weld!
I have done some research on my machine and on welding with shielding gas and felt that today is the day 😊 I grabbed a couple of thick pieces of steel and carried all the gear outside. And one thing is obvious to me now; I need a welding cart!!!!! Carrying the welder, gas and gear out and in all the time is a pain in the a%$!

The first thing was to try the welder, and I spent 10-15 minutes playing around with settings and welding. I could get penetration, but the “seam” was tall, and if I turned the welder over 2 (of 4) on the heat, the fuze kept breaking. I need a bigger circuit as well looks like.

I measured and cut a piece of steel for the first weld and tacked it in place. Adjusted the welder and actually think I did pretty well, for a first time in 20 years.

The second piece was actually a lot better and easier, and I think it looks alright 🤔
Both surfaces are now primed with anti-rust rattle can paint and gets a black coating tomorrow or something.

If I weren’t so knackered I’d take a drive and buy the cart tonight, but I think tomorrow is better even though it’s Whit weekend. Oh, and I need to find a good supply of steel. I pay between ~$50 and ~$60 for a sheet of 1m x 1m cold rolled 1mm steel. Pricey!

Nice little project

I don’t have to good photos or a finished product yet, but this is a quick and simple little project. It’s a way old garden rake, made from a metal plate and some nails. The nails are welded to the plate and it’s bent around a handle. One of the nails are broken and needs replacing.

An angle grinder, a drill and a bit and the scene is set. I don’t have a nail of the same size, but a simple normal nail is to be welded in place and cut and shaped to fit. I was supposed to weld it up today, but the weather is breaking out again and I will not be outside in the rain, welding. I WANT SOME 🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞

Pickin’ free stuff

I watch a lot of YouTube videos, and I see so many videos from yard sales, garage sales and what not. This is not a thing here in Norway, and certainly not anything like town wide yard sales… The only thing here is Finn.no (sort of like Craigslist) and watching the free listings like a hawk! I have alerts on anything that’s posted for free in my area, and that is 98% where I get my “new” stuff.

However; Any time any motorized equipment is listed, you have to be quick. You have to contact the seller within a minute, maybe two, if you want to be lucky. Yesterday I was notified of a free lawnmower, and I had sent a message to the seller in under a minute. I was still not the first one! I also have a listing on Finn, where I tell people I pick up motorized equipment, if they’re getting rid of it. That way they don’t have to go to the trouble of driving it to the dump, which is usually what happens.

This video is from yesterday, showing the items I picked and also a few of my listings that’s being flipped.

The Husqvarna mower I picked up yesterday, is from the listing I have of picking up equipment. I don’t get a whole lot that way, but occasionally. It needs a bit of work, new pull chord, new throttle lever, new governor spring and work on the propulsion. For now, I’m setting it aside, because I just can’t get new parts over here. I ordered a carb kit from the USA, in early March and it got here this Friday!!! Two months, all because of Covid-19.

Another thing I’ve realized is: because of Covid-19, I might struggle to get more gas for my brand new welder when I run out. All Jula’s in Norway are out of the refill option, but one of the stores semi-close to me has one bottle left. Luckily, the tank holds 2500 liters of gas, so I’m set for a good while.

Now, I’m just waiting for it to dry up a bit from last nights shower. I want to get out to work on my stuff. I noticed that there is an issue with the gears on the Diamant bike I picked up. I think the wire is too loose, but I’m not sure. It’s one of those old 3-speed gears that are locked in the back wheel. Never worked on one of those, but I’ll figure something out 😃
